He was a highly learned religious scholar, well-versed in Islamic jurisprudence and other vital subjects like beliefs, history, Tafseer, etc. He led the congregational prayers of Moghal Masjid in Bombay for almost 25 years and regularly explained religious laws from the pulpit for the followers of Ahle Bait (a.s.). Most of his time was spent in reading, writing and research.

He had also established a publication organization by the name of ‘Idaarah-e-Nashr-e-Uloom-e-Aale Muhammad (a.s.) along with the aforementioned individuals, which published numerous books written by him. Not the one to be allured by worldly attractions, the revered Shaikh Saahab (r.a.) was a dignified propagator, watchful in actions, careful in words and pure in thoughts. He was an embodiment of all spiritual virtues that Islam stood for and hence, the very mention of Sayyedush Shuhadaa, Imam Husain (a.s.), had him sobbing uncontrollably. He never ceased to think about the guidance and welfare of the Indian Shia community – especially the youth. He always reminded those around him that every Shia had a duty towards their Imam-e-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.) and that they would be intensely questioned about the Mastership of the Ahle Bait (a.s.) in the life hereafter. He refrained the youth from indulging in vain pursuits like sports and films and instead, asked them to concentrate on the true divine sciences of the Ahle Bait (a.s.). He expired in the year 1987 and is buried in the Rehmatabad Grayeyard of Mumbai. May Allah the Almighty grant his soul an elevated status in the neighbourhood of the Ahle Bait (a.s.)! Aameen!

Maulana Sayed Ghulam Hasnain Rizvi Karaarvi (r.a.) was born in a devout family of Karaari, Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) and went to a religious school in Lucknow for his elementary education. Thereafter, he went to the University of Allahabad for his graduation and post-graduation. He had a thorough command over Urdu, Arabic, Persian and Hindi, particularly his sway over Urdu language and literature in which he acquired quite a reputation. Yet, the most amazing part of his life was that despite taking a formal degree in religious sciences, he never took it as a profession. Instead, he opted to become a school teacher at Habib High School, Mumbai, where he taught Arabic and Hindi. He was a symbol of contentment, who never craved for worldly provisions, concentrating only and solely on building his hereafter. Humility and self-respect were the hallmarks of his personality. Like, Maulana Hujjatul Islam Shaikh Rajabi (r.a.), he too felt the pain of the community in his heart and always thought of ways and means to guide the people and their spiritual, social and material development. He always kept himself occupied in whatever excess time he had in reading, writing and translating books and treatises.

The Urdu translation of Al-Kaafi was one such effort that was highly applauded and appreciated in the religious as well as literary world. He richly contributed to several religious magazines that were published. He also edited a magazine ‘Khuddam al-Zaaereen’ – a journal dedicated to the spread of the teachings of Aale Muhammad (a.s.) – for a number of years. Under the banner of Idaarah-e-Nashr-e-Uloom-e-Aale Muhammad (a.s.), he translated the works of resepected Hujjatul Islam Shaikh Ismail Rajabi Saahab (r.a.). He was also a patron of numerous Maatami Anjumans in Mumbai.

Incidentally, he was also responsible for starting the Bombay operations of Tanzeemul Makaatib under the supervision of Khateeb-e-A’zam Maulana Sayed Ghulam Askari Sahab (r.a.). It was due to his untiring efforts that Tanzeemul Makaatib took deep roots in a large city like Bombay.

It seemed that right from the beginning of his career, he had defined his goal and that was to introduce the twelfth Imam, Imam-e-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.) to the people, a mission which he carried out with unparalleled zeal and unmatched enthusiasm. The memory of his smiling face and witty remarks is indelible in our minds and will continue to remain so till the end of our lives. He expired in Lucknow, while being on one of his missionary trips of 15th Shabaan for Exhibition of Books and Functions concerning Imam-e-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.), when he suffered a massive heart-attack. His body was taken to his native place, Karaari, where he is resting in the graveyard of Waadis Salaam. May Allah the Almighty grant his soul an elevated status in the neighbourhood of the Ahle Bait (a.s.)! Aameen!

The foundation of Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.), Mumbai (India) was laid by Respected Hujjatul Islam Maulana Shaikh Muhammad Ismail Rajabi Saahab (r.a) – a learned, pious and noble scholar.

A few, who were in his company, began to share his concerns and a desire for serving Islam and the followers of Ahle Bait (a.s.) blossomed in their hearts. These select few were as follows: Maulana Sayed Ghulam Hasnain Rizvi Karaarvi (r.a.), Sayed Muhammad Akbar Rizvi and Janab Haiderbhai Nayani.

It was in 1977 when the respected Maulana Saahab (r.a.) advised them to initiate some kind of religious teaching and training activity for the youth and the religiously inclined intelligentsia of the Shiite society. He explained to us the method for conducting this training. This paved the way for the first class of Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.). It was conducted at the house of Maulana Saahab (r.a.) and Maulana Ghulam Hasnain Rizvi (r.a.) was its teacher who conducted the class in the presence of Maulana Saahab (r.a.).

Gradually, more people – especially the youth – began joining such classes. Thus, the group of knowledge-seekers associated with Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) increased by the day.

These classes were held in Mosques, Imambargahs and houses of the religiously inclined. Children and youth all began joining these classes in large numbers. The syllabi for all categories (youth, elders and children) were designed as per their capabilities.

Today, the Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) is run under the patronage of Respected Hujjatul Islam Maulana Sayed Ahmed Ali Abedi Saahab, who also happens to be the Principal of Jaameato Ameeril Momineen (a.s.), Najafi House, Dongri, Mumbai. He is also the representative of His Excellency Ayatullah al-Uzma Sayed Ali Husaini Seestaani and other Maraaje’, besides being a prolific writer and translator of several books and treatises.

Alhamdolillah, some of its youngsters acquired deep religious knowledge and became inexhaustible researchers, writers and translators, whose works are published by the Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) year after year.

Printing and publishing plays an important role in the field of religious propagation. This is one area that dispels any doubts and misgivings that people may have about any organization. Thus, to the best of its ability, Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) has always been active in this field and its youngsters too have worked hard in this noble endeavor. Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) publishes two issues of the magazine “Al-Qaem Al-Muntazar” every year – one in Sha’baan al-Muazzam and the other in Muharram al-Haraam. These articles are penned after in-depth research, with the mention of all necessary references and hence are valued not only in India but also abroad in scholarly and literary circles.

Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) had received the Ijaazah from the late Marja’ Ayatullah al-Uzma, Sayed Abul Qasim al-Khoi (r.a.) to receive and spend unrestricted Sahme Imam (a.s.) for its activities.

Presently, His Excellency Ayatullah al-Uzma Sayed Ali al-Seestaani has also granted the Ijaazah to Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) for receiving and spending unrestricted Sahme Imam (a.s.) for all its activities. Moreover, in a very recent statement, His Excellency Ayatullah al-Uzma Sayed Ali Husaini al-Seestaani has also mentioned in no uncertain terms that attending these classes is the cause of pleasing our master Imam-e-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.).

Association of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) is a registered trust whose accounts are regularly audited by an authorized chartered accountant (CA) and the audited report is submitted to the ‘Charity Commissioner’ on an annual basis.
